dc.description.abstract Carpal tunnel syndrome is a neuropathy of the upper limb associated with compression and impaired blood supply to the median nerve, manifested by pain, paresthesia, and loss of function of the thumb muscles. Women and people who overuse their forearms and hands are at risk. The disease is treated conservatively or surgically, and the patient always requires a holistic approach from the therapeutic team. The aim of the study was to identify the nursing problems of a patient with carpal tunnel syndrome and to determine the diagnoses and nursing interventions using ICNP® terms. Material – 53-year-old woman; methods – interview, observation, measurement, analysis of documentation. The patient was admitted for planned surgery. She had a history of right wrist complaints for 3 years (pain, numbness, tingling, hypoesthesia of the fingers (I-III), lack of strength in bending the fingers). She had a history of multiple diseases, overweight, and nicotine addiction. On the day of admission, vital signs were normal, pain in the right hand (7 points on the VAS scale). The course of treatment was normal, the patient was in good general and local condition and was discharged home. Nursing problems related to carpal tunnel syndrome, multiple diseases, unhealthy behaviors, and hospitalization were diagnosed. Nursing interventions were carried out in the areas of diagnostics, care and therapy, prevention, rehabilitation, and education. The disease caused the patient discomfort in biological, psychological, and social terms.
