The level of education as a determinant of awareness in the field of organs transplantation in the selected populations

Abstract

Transplantation is a procedure of cells, tissues or organs transfer within a single or between two bodies. The main problem of transplant medicine is a shortage of organs both in Poland and Europe that may be caused by the lack of people awareness in the fi eld of transplantation related issues. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge of investigated population on this topic and also the attempt to answer the question: has the level of education an impact on respondents’ awareness in the fi eld of organs transplantation? Author’s questionnaire contains 31 questions and was conducted in a group of 800 people living in the Province of Opole, Silesia and Lower Silesia. It was found that the level of respondents’ knowledge on organs transplantation is satisfactory as well as the level of education affects to a statistically signifi cant extend the respondents’ knowledge. The higher the education, the greater awareness on the issues related to organs transplantation.

Transplantacja jest zabiegiem przeniesienia komórek, tkanek lub narządów w obrębie jednego organizmu lub między dwoma organizmami.Głównym problemem medycyny transplantacyjnej jest niedobór narządów występujący zarówno w Polsce, jak i w Europie, czego powodem może być brak świadomości społeczeństwa z zakresu zagadnień związanych z przeszczepianiem narządów. Celem pracy jest ocena wiedzy badanej populacji z zakresu transplantacji narządów oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy poziom wykształcenia ma wpływ na świadomość ankietowanych w zakresie przeszczepiania narządów. Autorski kwestionariusz zawierający 31 pytań przeprowadzono w grupie 800 osób zamieszkałych w województwie opolskim, śląskim oraz dolnośląskim. Ustalono, że poziom wiedzy respondentów z zakresu transplantacji narządów jest zadowalający oraz, że poziom wykształcenia w statystycznie istotny sposób wpływa na wiedzę respondentów z zakresu przeszczepiania organów. Im wyższe wykształcenie tym większa świadomość z zakresu zagadnień związanych z transplantacją narządów.
