Streszczenie
Anoreksja (jadłowstręt psychiczny) jest jednym z najpoważniejszych zaburzeń odżywiania,
którego etiologia obejmuje czynniki biologiczne, psychologiczne i środowiskowe. Szczególną
rolę w profilaktyce i wczesnym rozpoznawaniu choroby odgrywają rodzice, którzy powinni
Z 150 rozprowadzonych kwestionariuszy uzyskano
133 prawidłowo wypełnione ankiety. Narzędzie badawcze stanowił autorski kwestionariusz
zawierający 15 pytań zamkniętych i otwartych dotyczących wiedzy na temat anoreksji. Termin
„anoreksja” był znany 73% respondentów, jednak jedynie 30% prawidłowo definiowało to
zaburzenie. Ponad połowa badanych (52%) dostrzegała wpływ sposobu wychowania na ryzyko
rozwoju anoreksji. Większość rodziców nie potrafiła wskazać grup szczególnie narażonych na
zachorowanie (61%) ani oszacować częstości występowania choroby wśród dzieci i młodzieży (61%). Jako główne działania profilaktyczne wskazywano rozmowę z dzieckiem (45%), kontrolę
spożywanych posiłków (21%) oraz kształtowanie akceptacji własnego wyglądu (15%).
Najczęściej wymienianymi sygnałami ostrzegawczymi były utrata masy ciała (33%), jadłowstręt
(20%) i obsesyjne liczenie kalorii (20%). Większość respondentów (88%) poprawnie
rozpoznała pierwsze objawy anoreksji. W przypadku podejrzenia choroby rodzice najczęściej
deklarowali skorzystanie z pomocy lekarza rodzinnego (35%) lub psychologa (25%). Mimo
Anorexia nervosa is one of the most serious eating disorders, with an etiology that involves biological, psychological, and environmental factors. Parents play a particularly important role in the prevention and early diagnosis of the disease and should be knowledgeable about the symptoms, risk factors, and options for obtaining specialized help. The aim of the chapter was to assess the knowledge of parents of school-aged children regarding the symptoms, causes, and consequences of anorexia, as well as preventive measures related to this disorder. The study was conducted in November 2024 among parents of students at one of the elementary schools in Lublin. Of the 150 questionnaires distributed, 133 were returned correctly completed. The research tool was a custom-designed questionnaire containing 15 closed-ended and open-ended questions regarding knowledge about anorexia. The term “anorexia” was familiar to 73% of respondents, but only 30% correctly defined the disorder. More than half of the respondents (52%) recognized the influence of parenting styles on the risk of developing anorexia. Most parents were unable to identify groups particularly at risk of developing the disorder (61%) or estimate the prevalence of the disorder among children and adolescents (61%). The main preventive measures cited were talking with the child (45%), monitoring their meals (21%), and fostering acceptance of one’s own appearance (15%). The most frequently mentioned warning signs were weight loss (33%), loss of appetite (20%), and obsessive calorie counting (20%). Most respondents (88%) correctly identified the first symptoms of anorexia. In cases of suspected illness, parents most often reported seeking help from a family doctor (35%) or a psychologist (25%). Although most parents are familiar with the concept of anorexia, their knowledge regarding its etiology, risk groups, and available support options is insufficient. It is necessary to conduct educational activities to raise parents’ awareness of the impact of family and environmental factors on the development of anorexia and the various symptoms of the disease, which may contribute to its earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.
