Streszczenie
Purpose of work: The choice of subject of the following research was dictated by the need to
investigate the development of reading fluency in English, in particular of word recognition
accuracy, reading rate and oral reading prosody, among six 1st Grade Polish EFL learners.
Materials and methods: The study employed was longitudinal and quantitative in nature.
The learners were tested four times in accuracy and speed, and twice in prosody. Results:
In general the results in all three aspects of reading fluency in English improved for all the
learners, however some considerable individual differences have been noted. Conclusions:
The results of the study suggest that educational efforts to improve reading fluency in
English among EFL learners seem to be worthwhile.
