Przedmiotem analizy jest kategoria narodu w oryginalnym ujęciu Anthonego Davida Smitha. W artykule podjęto próbę odpowiedzi na pytania: czym jest naród w rozumieniu Smitha; jakie czynniki konstytuują naród, które z nich są kluczowe, a które fakultatywne. Jaki jest stosunek Smitha do głównych szkół zajmujących się narodem i jego pochodzeniem. Ponadto, w artykule podjęto próbę analizy teorii Smitha w perspektywie socjologii humanistycznej oraz jej przydatności dla chrześcijańskiej myśli społecznej.

The subject of the analysis is the category of the nation in the original approach of Anthony David Smith. The article attempts to answer the questions: what is a nation according to Smith; what factors constitute the nation, which of them are main and which are optional. What is Smith’s attitude to various theories of the nation and its origins? In the article, the author also analyzes Smith’s theory of the nation in the perspective of humanistic sociology and the usefulness of this theory for Christian social thought.
