RekordDevelopment or Decline of Physical Culture? Physical Activity of the Alpha Generation from the Polish Perspective(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Piepiora, Paweł Adam ; Bagińska, Justyna ; Piepiora, Zbigniew Norbert ; Vveinhardt, JolitaThere is evidence of a decline in interest in physical activity among the Alpha Generation. It is therefore evident that physical culture must adapt to the specific characteristics of the youngest generation if it is to survive. In light of the aforementioned considerations, the objective of this humanist article is to ascertain whether physical culture can evolve in a manner that will ensure its continued existence or whether it is on a trajectory towards decline. This qualitative research presents a summary of the observations made and allows us to formulate a general thesis. The characteristics of the Alpha Generation are presented herewith, with an emphasis on the advantages and disadvantages inherent in their enhanced digital proficiency and the concomitant challenges to social cohesion. It was indicated that their expectations of physical activities were focused on e-sports and smart technology. It can be considered that the next phase of physical culture development will take place through the introduction of e-sports and smart technology into the physical activities undertaken by the Alpha Generation. At the same time, this development must be sustainable, in that it must still recognize the traditional values of physical culture. This will ensure that the generation in question functions well both with and without technology.

RekordStigmatization and Discrimination of Obese Patients by Healthcare Workers: A Global Healthcare Issue(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Szymańska, Martyna ; Kapusta, Mateusz ; Nowak, JustynaObesity is a chronic, metabolic disease that stems from an imbalanced calorie intake and can be influenced by genetic, environmental and individual factors. Obesity and its complications are among the major global health issues of the 21st century. Many s tudies have confirmed that obese individuals evoke negative emotions in others, such as disgust, repulsion or even anger. Search was performed on two databases: PubMed and Google Scholar. The following keywords were used: “obesity”, “obese”, “patient”, “stigma”, “weight bias”, “healthcare”, “healthcare professionals”, “medical professionals”, “discrimination”, “fatphobia”. The majority of the articles come from 2013-2023, and no language restriction was applied. Medical personnel often display negative attitudes toward obese patients, which negatively affects the patient’s health and the quality of received care. Currently available literature suggests the occurrence of obesity and weight stigma in many countries around the globe, such as: Poland, Germany, Brazil, USA, Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Israel, and Australia. Both medical personnel and medical students display examples of stigma behaviors. Despite the prevalence of obesity, people with excessive body weight often face social disapproval and discrimination. This stigmatizing behavior can also occur among medical personnel. There is a need to eliminate these negative attitudes and beliefs within the medical community.

RekordFrom Inspiration to Action: Active People Motivate Others to Be Physically Active(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Piech, Krzysztof ; Zalech, Mirosław ; Parnicka, Urszula ; Korpak, Filip ; Kalicka, Paulina ; Juśkiewicz, Krzysztof ; Litwiniuk, Artur ; Baj-Korpak, JoannaBackground. T he a im o f t he s tudy w as t o f ind o ut w hat i nspires p eople w ho p ractice Nordic walking and running to be physically active. It was decided to examine who mainly motivated the respondents to take up physical activity. Another important issue was to investigate how physically active people who participate in sports events influence the interest in physical activity of other family members, friends, acquaintances and colleagues. Material and methods. The study involved 209 people, including 108 men and 101 women. The study was conducted using an online questionnaire. The purposeful sampling method was used. The questionnaire consisted of closed and open questions, covering, among others, inspirations, behaviors, motivations regarding physical activity of the surveyed people. Results. Most respondents claim that they need one source of inspiration to undertake physical activity, colleagues and acquaintances, and to a lesser extent support from family members. The analysis of the relationship between the sources of inspiration for physical activity among respondents showed a dependence on education and age. People participating in running and Nordic walking events inspire others to physical activity. Most often, it is family, colleagues and acquaintances. Conclusions. The results of the presented study indicate a positive influence of inspirators on increasing the physical activity of people of different ages. This fact should be taken into account when creating a strategy for the development of physical activity.

RekordAge-Related Features of Changes in Non-Specific and Specific Indicators in the Body of Rats When Consuming Water with Different Concentrations of Nitrates(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Lototska, Olena ; Danchyshyn, Maryana ; Melnyk, NataliiaBackground. The problem of nitrate contamination of groundwater, which is used for drinking purposes, is constantly worsening in many countries and still remains relevant. Material and methods. The study was conducted on 60 white female rats divided into 5 groups. Each had 6 sexually mature individuals and 6 sexually immature individuals. The 1st group received drinking water from the city water supply. The 2nd group consumed water with nitrates in a concentration of 50, the 3rd – 150, the 4th – 250, and the 5th – 500 mg/l for 30 days. To study the influence of different concentrations of nitrates under conditions of their intake with drinking water on the condition of the liver of white rats, the relative weight of the liver was calculated, and also the activity of the liver in blood serum was determined. Results. The indicated concentrations of nitrates in drinking water led to an increase in the relative weight of the liver and to an increase in cytolysis indicators. Conclusions. Drinking water with nitrates in the experimental groups had a negative effect on rats body, which was evidenced by a change in the relative weight of the liver and cytolysis indicators. The adverse effect increased with increasing nitrate concentration.

RekordIs There an Effect of Lifestyle Changes (Exercise and Diet Control) on the Suggested Connection Between Dry Eye Syndrome and Psoriasis?(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Ismail, Ali Mohamed AliRecently, it has been documented that psoriasis – a chronic inflammatory skin disease – is associated with the development of different health complications [1,2] including cardiovascular risk factors [2,3] and dry eye syndrome [4]. Dry eye syndrome (DES), a disorder characterized by tear deficiency and/or excessive evaporation, is associated with ocular discomfort, pain, and redness [5]. There is a suggested possible positive role of lifestyle changes (regular exercise performance and selective dietary control) in controlling the symptoms and complications of different disorders [6] including psoriasis [2] and DES [5,7]. It is thought that adherence to lifestyle changes prevents factorsinduced common pathological connections (oxidative stress, chronic systemic inflammation, and disharmony between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems) between psoriasis [2] and DES [5,7]. Also, exercise reduces cardiovascular risk factors that may aggravate the progression of psoriasis [2,3] and DES [5,7].

RekordType Two Diabetes in Adolescents and Children: Trends and Risks(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Cecot, Jakub Ryszard ; Zarzecki, Konrad ; Mandryk, MiłoszRecently, we had pleasure of reading an insightful article by Wei et al. [1], focusing on young-onset type 2 diabetes mellitus. We wish to emphasize the relevance of this topic due to the number of possible complications in the future resulting directly from the increasing prevalence of diabetes in the population. Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by sustained high blood glucose concentrations resulting from tissue insulin resistance. The data presented in the work of Wei et al. [1] illustrate an alarming trend, projecting a quadrupling in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among children and adolescents in the US by the year 2050 [2,3]. Such rapid growth points to the crisis ahead, as well as the need for a shift in approach to the measures required to overcome this challenge worldwide.

RekordQuality of Life of Seniors Staying in the Vascular Surgery Department(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Wróblewska, Zuzanna ; Chmielewski, Jarosław Piotr ; Kowalczyk, Michał ; Orczykowski, Tomasz ; Kosecka, Justyna ; Wróblewska, IzabelaBackground. Cardiovascular diseases are among the most important health problems and are considered a leading cause of death. A patient’s quality of life (QoL) depends on their physical and mental health, as well as on various areas of their functioning. The purpose of this study was to determine the QoL of senior patients with vascular diseases. Material and methods. The study covered 227 patients staying in the vascular surgery department. The analysis used a proprietary questionnaire containing questions about socio-demographic data, and standardized questionnaires: SF-36 and Beck’s Depression Inventory. Results. Most patients with vascular diseases were men (120 men, i.e. 52.86%) and those over the age of 60 (66.08%). A correlation was observed between age and perceived QoL – patients over 60 experience a lower QoL in terms of physical functioning and general health. It was found that women were significantly more likely than men to experience a reduced QoL due to pain complaints, and that those with higher levels of education, taking fewer medications, had lower scores on the Beck’s scale. Conclusions. Pain has a decisive impact on the respondents’ QoL. The higher the level of depression among the respondents, the lower their QoL. Women are more likely to experience reduced QoL due to pain complaints. People with higher levels of education take fewer medications, less frequently complain of low mood and rate their QoL higher.

RekordEtiological Agents and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Surgical Site Infection Isolates: A Single-Center Experience in Bulgaria(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Nedelcheva Kuyumdzhieva, Gergana ; Dobreva, Dayana ; Kuyumdzhiev, Teofan ; Tsankova, Gabriela ; Todorova, TatinaBackground. Surgical site infections represent the leading complication in surgical departments and are often associated with higher costs, treatment duration and mortality. The present study has evaluated the incidence, the bacteriological profile and the antibiotic resistance pattern of surgical site infection pathogens isolated in the Military Medical Academy in Varna, Bulgaria. Material and methods. A total of 463 isolates were obtained from 957 surgical site samples investigated from January 2019 to December 2021. Their antibiotic susceptibility was determined by the disk diffusion method following the EUCAST guidelines. Results. The most common isolates for the study period were coagulase-negative staphylococci (21.8%) and Escherichia coli (17.3%). Vancomycin, teicoplanin and linezolid were fully effective against staphylococci and enterococci, while colistin, imipenem, meropenem and piperacillin/tazobactam were fully effective against Enterobacteriaceae. Similarly, the most active with 100% retained activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii was colistin. Conclusions. The etiological structure of surgical site infections in the Military Medical Academy in Varna was comparable to that found in other studies, with a prevalence of staphylococci and enteric bacteria. We found a significant number of isolates resistant to commonly used antibiotics, which limits available treatment options. Strict and active antimicrobial resistance surveillance should be adapted to a larger extent to prevent the emergence of resistant strains.

RekordContribution of Biological Treatment to the Final Effect of Rehabilitation in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Nechvátal, Pavol ; Demjanovič Kendrová, Lucia ; Mikuľáková, Wioletta ; Čuj, JakubBackground. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) primarily targets the spine and sacroiliac joints, manifesting as a chronic inflammatory autoimmune condition. The aim of the study was to investigate the benefits of biological therapy on the final effect of rehabilitation in patients with AS. Material and methods. A total of 60 patients with a mean age of 45 years who were diagnosed with stage II-III AS participated in the study. In addition to rehabilitation, 30 patients received conventional treatment and 30 patients received biological treatment. The functional disability was assessed using the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) questionnaire and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) questionnaire was used to assess disease activity. Results. Significant reductions in functional disability and disease activity were observed in both groups of patients (p˂0.001) after treatment (conventional/biological and rehabilitation). Statistical processing of the outcome results revealed that patients in the second group (with biological treatment) had a significantly lower rate of functional disability (BASFI=31) after treatment compared to the first group of patients (BASFI=35) (p=0.032). Disease activity was comparable in both groups of patients after treatment, but no significant difference was found (p=0.063). Conclusions. The study demonstrated that rehabilitation has a positive effect on functional disability and disease activity, with significantly better outcomes found in the biological therapy group of patients compared to the conventional therapy group of patients.

RekordHealth Education Project's Effect on Elementary School Students' Health Status(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025) Cselik, Bence ; Tumpek, Nikolett ; Lendvay, Marcell ; Ács, Pongrác ; Filó, CsillaBackground. The goal of this study was to prove that children’s physical activity decreases with age. A significant correlation was found between health awareness and regular exercise. The deliberately designed elementary school health education program had a positive effect on health behavior. Material and methods. The same questionnaire was used every year. Questions were alternately connected to health and sports subjects. The nutrition habits and trends of the students were explored, and personal opinions and feedback were welcomed. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis (p<0.05) were applied. Students were aged from 11 to 14 years. Results. Based on the BMI, more than 13% of the students were morbidly obese or undernourished. Almost 10% of the students were overweight or obese. More than 65% of students engaged in sports on a regular basis at the lowest estimate 2 or 3 times a week. Nearly 10% of children never participated in sport activity or physical exercise outside of physical education classes. Conclusions. Starting from the 8th grade, it would be important to include informational lectures on appropriate training in the curriculum, and it is also important to promote a healthy lifestyle among both parents and children and to operate a healthy school canteen. The infrastructure of schools and the range of sports activities should be improved.
