RekordPhysical activity and mental health of students from Poland and Belarus in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: reflections on the purpose of a research project(Akademia Bialska Nauk Stosowanych im. Jana Pawła II, 2022-06-30) Baj-Korpak, Joanna ; Zaworski, Kamil ; Shpakou, Andrei ; Szymczuk, EwaKnowledge of the medical-psychological and socio-cultural determinants of physical activity (PA) and mental health is still unsatisfactory. A dominance of diagnostic over explanatory studies and a focus on the association of PA and mental health status with unmodified demographic variables characterizes most research in this area. The aim of the proposed project is to determine PA levels and psychological adaptation to stress among students from Poland and Belarus in the context of different anti-pandemic strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic. John Paul II University of Applied Sciences in Biala Podlaska (Poland) and Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno (Belarus) were chosen for the study, as despite the universities being located a relatively small distance from each other, they are in different countries and subject to different anti-pandemic strategies. The proposed survey will include approximately 800 medical and health sciences students (approximately 400 from each university). Nine standardized survey instruments will be used: IPAQ-SF, MBI, SWLS, CECS, GSES, Mini-COPE, STAI, TSK, and GHQ-28. The outcome of the research will be the identification of the medical-psychological and socio-cultural determinants that influence psychological adaptation and PA levels of students experiencing different anti-pandemic strategies during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RekordSelected treatment approaches for metabolic syndrome(Akademia Bialska Nauk Stosowanych im. Jana Pawła II, 2022-06-30) Pęczkowska, Anna ; Kaziród, ArturCardiovascular disease (CVD) is an important risk factor for premature death amongst the Polish population. In 2014, CVD accounted for 45.1% of all deaths. According to a World Health Organization expert analysis published in 2004, around 80% of cases of CVD, stroke and type 2 diabetes mellitus are preventable if the most important risk factors can be addressed. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) defines a constellation of risk factors, including obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, associated with the development of CVD. National cross-sectional research on the health of Poles indicates that over 90% of men and 89% of women have at least one risk factor. It is estimated that in the coming years the number of obese people will increase and the incidence of diabetes and arterial hypertension will increase. This paper presents the most important and effective methods for the treatment of MetS, which include a well-balanced diet, physical activity, vibrotherapy, and pharmacotherapy. Effective action taken early on can reduce not only mortality risk, but also decrease prevalence and disability and improve the quality of life of Polish citizens.

RekordStructural and functional reorganization of the heart and its relationship with physical activities in elite football players(Akademia Bialska Nauk Stosowanych im. Jana Pawła II, 2022-06-30) Lyzohub, Volodymyr ; Khomenko, Serhii ; Kozhemiako, Tetiana ; Shpaniuk, Vitalii ; Pustovalov, VitaliiBackground. The aim of the study was the evaluation of the structural and functional reorganization of the heart and their relationship with physical activity in elite football players. Material and methods. Characteristics of the myocardium and physical activity were studied using the Catapult Vector S7 GPS-sport telemetry system, “Polar” heart rate monitor, and echocardioscope. Results. Physical activity in the mode of high-speed running during games was found to contribute to an increase in playing activities of football players and structural and functional characteristics of the heart. A correlation (r=0.35-0.51; p=0.021-0.043) was obtained between the performance of football players, which was measured by distance, heart rate, cardiac output, stroke volume, stroke index, left ventricle mass. Statistically significant differences were found in the structural and functional characteristics of the myocardium: end-diastolic volume, endsystolic volume, stroke volume, stroke index, ejection fraction, myocardial contractility index, and left ventricle mass for groups of players with different gradations of distance in the mode of high-speed running. Conclusions. It was found that there is a relationship between the physical activities of highly qualified football players in the mode of speed running with the characteristics of the pumping function of the heart.
