RekordHealthcare Workers’ Emotional Intelligence and Their Job Satisfaction(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025)Background. The study focuses on considerations relating to emotional intelligence (EI) and job satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between EI and job satisfaction among healthcare professionals. Material and methods. A total of 124 healthcare professionals took part in the survey. The respondents were selected so that half (50%) were paramedics and the other half were nurses. The study used a standardized EI questionnaire (INTE) and a proprietary job satisfaction questionnaire. The following tests and statistical coefficients were used to determine the relationships between variables: Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman’s rho correlation coefficient. Results. In terms of job satisfaction, more than half of the respondents (58.9%) reported high scores. Significantly higher job satisfaction scores were recorded among nurses than among paramedics. In terms of general EI, 46.8% of the respondents had average scores and 53.2% had high scores. None of the respondents had low EI. As many as 82.3% of the paramedics and only 24.2% of the nurses had high levels of EI. Research has shown a correlation between job satisfaction and general EI. Conclusions. In the medical professions studied, there is a correlation between EI and job satisfaction: the higher the EI, the higher the job satisfaction.

RekordSafest Under the Sun? Practices Applied by Residents of the Silesian Voivodeship for Sun Protection(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025)Background. Excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation can result in skin burns and the emergence of cancers. Regular use of sunscreen reduces the risk of melanoma. The aim of the study was to assess the use of sunscreen and other sun protection practices among the residents of the Silesia, Poland, as well as to determine the reasons behind the residents’ protective actions. Material and methods. A total of 400 (100%) individuals were examined: 243 women and 157 men, ranging in age from 16 to 84 years (x̄ =34.38±18.39). An author-designed questionnaire was used in the study, and its completion was anonymous and voluntary. Results. Unfortunately, 58 (15%) of the participants did not use sunscreen. Among men, as many as 41 (26.11%) did not use sunscreen, while only 17 women (7%) did not use it. A whopping 358 respondents (89.5%) did not apply the recommended amount of sunscreen. The group that was exceptionally diligent in using UV filters consisted of young women (47; 36.72%). The most common reasons indicated by the respondents for using sunscreen were: avoiding sunburns (289; 72.25%) and preventing melanoma (145; 36.25%). Conclusions. Many of those surveyed, mainly men and those with vocational education, did not use sunscreen. The most common reason for using sun protection among surveyed individuals was to avoid sunburns and prevent melanoma.

RekordDietary Habits of Poles with Diabetes: A Cross-Sectional Study(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025)Background. In developing countries, an increase in the incidence of diabetes has been observed in recent years, which is probably related to unhealthy lifestyles as well as a successively ageing population. Material and methods. The study was conducted between March 2019 and February 2020 among people aged 18-65 years, being treated for diabetes in inpatient and outpatient facilities in southern Poland. A diagnostic survey with use of the Dietary Habits and Nutrition Beliefs Questionnaire (KomPAN) and a self-designed questionnaire was applied. Results. A total of 203 subjects with diabetes took part in the study: 102 outpatients (A) and 103 who were hospitalized at the time of the study (H). The average age of the participants was 46.6±13.6 years old (18-65 years old). The majority of the diabetes patients surveyed confirmed they used a low carbohydrate diet in connection with their illness (87.7%). The dietary behaviors described by the respondents were largely unhealthy. The mean pHDI- 10 score for the respondents was: 22.55±8.67 points and for nHDI-14: 15.00±9.88 points. The place of the study, education and the general financial situation of the subjects had a statistically significant effect on the results (p<0.05). Conclusions. When educating patients with diabetes, health professionals should be proactive in providing them adequate counselling on dietary recommendations from the onset of the disease. This will lead to better nutritional knowledge and the motivation to put the recommendations into practice.

RekordSerological Status of Medical Students of John Paul II University in Biała Podlaska and Nurses Working in Healthcare Facilities in Relation to the Risk of Bordetella Pertussis and Measles Virus Infections(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2025)Background. Considering the nature of their work and the number of hours of practical training in medical fields carried out in healthcare facilities, it is logical that nurses and medical students are particularly exposed to contact with people with infectious diseases. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the level of IgG anti-B. pertussis and antimeasles virus antibodies among medical students and practicing nurses. Material and methods. Approximately 4 ml of venous blood was collected using closed blood collection systems from Becton Dickinson. IgG antibodies against the measles virus and B. pertussis toxin were measured in serum using an ELISA immunoassay (EUROIMMUN, Germany). The test kit contained microtiter plates coated with measles virus antigens or B. pertussis-specific toxin antigens. Results. Positive results for antibodies against the measles virus and B. pertussis toxin were most common in the 18-30 age group. In other age groups, positive results were found in isolated cases. Conclusions. As demonstrated in this study, IgG antibody levels against PT and IgG antibody levels against the measles virus decrease with age; therefore, it is necessary to continuously monitor incidence rates and control antibody levels.
