Specificity and challenges in the work of the coordinator of family foster care: Recommendations for pedagogical practice / Specyfika i wyzwania w pracy koordynatora rodzinnej pieczy zastępczej: rekomendacje dla praktyki pedagogicznej

The author considers the specific nature of the work of a family coordinator; describes the challenges she has to face related to task-oriented working time, emotional work costs, and the lack of documentation templates. The considerations are conducted from a practitioner’s point of view. Material and methods: Analysis of data contained in the SAOA report, the Act on family support and the foster care system, literature review. Results: The profession of a family foster care coordinator has its own specificity, different from other helping professions. Challenges are related to task-oriented working time, employee turnover, emotional burden, lack of systematic training and supervision, as well as the lack of a valid documentation template. Conclusions: Templates of applicable documentation should be created, and the child assistance plan should be replaced with a family work plan; peer supervision should be introduced in the coordinators’ workplace; the phenomenon of experienced people leaving their jobs should be minimized.
