RekordThe influence of sports on emotional control in cadets of the National Guard оf Ukraine at the beginning of the war(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-06-28) Bodnar, Ivanna ; Andres, Andrii ; Kryzhanovskyi, Valeriy ; Shvets, VadymThe ability to adequately respond to various emotional situations is vital for law enforcement officers to work effectively in peacetime. In times of war, the importance of emotional control increases. Material and methods. A survey (in Google forms) of cadets of the Kyiv Institute of the National Guard of Ukraine (n=282) was conducted. Depending on whether they played sports, the respondents were divided into 2 groups (n=171 and n=111, respectively). Spielberger’s method was advocated. And the Courtlaud Emotional Control Scale. Results. The anxiety levels of athlete cadets and those who had stopped regular training did not differ. An average level of emotional control was recorded. The anxiety control score was close to low. Significant differences were found in the anxiety and depression control scores of cadets who regularly performed physical exercise and those who did not participate in sports. Conclusions. At the beginning of the war, the level of anxiety among cadets was high. Among cadets who play sports, there was no high level of anxiety control, aggression, or depression, as expected from athletes. This can be explained by the different intensity of emotions and their control, as well as the insufficient duration of sports training among cadets.

RekordEpicardial fat thickness increase in patients with seborrheic dermatitis as a clinical biomarker of cardio-metabolic risk(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-07-10) Kaya, Özge ; Kaya, HakkıSeborrheic dermatitis (SD) can be associated with cardiometabolic conditions. This study aimed to evaluate epicardial fat thickness (EFT), a marker of cardiometabolic disease, in SD patients. Material and methods. In this cross-sectional and observational study, 90 patients with SD and 50 age- and sex-matched control subjects were evaluated for echocardiographic EFT and metabolic profile data. Results. Systolic blood pressure, heart rate, high sensitive C-reactive protein, monocyte count and EFT were found to be significantly higher in the SD group (53 female; mean age, 39.3±13.3 years) compared to the control group (34 female; mean age, 39.9±13.4 years). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the EFT and heart rate were found to be independently associated with SD. Additionally, in the multivariate linear regression analysis including the parameters correlated with EFT and the parameters associated with EFT at the p<0.001 level in univariate analysis; BMI (β: 0.341, p<0.001) and SD disease duration (β: 0.435, p<0.001), as well as seborrheic dermatitis area and severity index (β: 0.177, p=0.037) were found to be independently associated with EFT. Conclusions. EFT is increased in patients with SD and was also found to be independently associated with SD. Prolonged and severe SD may be a dermatological sign regarding cardiometabolic disease.

RekordThe problem of interhemispheric asymmetry in determining individual lateral preferences in children with intellectual disabilities(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-08-21) Azatyan, TerezaThe purpose of the study was a theoretical review of the problem of interhemispheric asymmetry and lateral preferences in children with intellectual disabilities. Data analysis from numerous studies in neuropsychology have allowed a new view of the possibility of developing compensatory mechanisms for various disorders of higher mental functions with specific features of the lateral organization profile types of motor and sensory functions that play a basic role in the mental development of children with disabilities. The analysis of the presented scientific approaches and factual studies allow to state the presence of hidden contradictions in the issues of determining correlations of interhemispheric asymmetry in impaired development. The review of the literature presented in this paper proves the presence of qualitative peculiarities of the organization of movements in brain of schoolchildren with intellectual disabilities. At the same time, the theoretical analysis revealed a lack of consensus on the influence of lateral preferences in the difficulties encountered, which determines the relevance and necessity of further search for opportunities to use neuropsychological data and the individual lateral preferences in the development of movement skills.

RekordWell-being as a strength of sports science students during the COVID-19 pandemic: a crosssectional study(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-08-21) Milovanović, Ivana M. ; Maksimović, Nebojša ; Matić, Radenko M. ; Banjac, BrigitaThe COVID-19 pandemic worldwide challenged people’s mental health. As a tool, physical activity can maintain resilience and well-being. Within this research, we aimed to examine students’ well-being in the summer of 2022 and compare them from the perspective of their study programs. Material and methods. This research was carried out in Slovenia and Serbia, with a sample of 700 students from two universities (Primorska and Novi Sad). To evaluate the students’ well-being, the PERMA-Profiler, a 15-item self-reported survey, was applied from May to July 2022. The SPSS was used for data analysis of the Mann-Whitney U test. Results. The results revealed normal functioning for the total sample (M=7.47, SD±1.37). In addition, when the researchers were making a comparison between the study programs (sports and other sciences), different responses were found with significantly higher scores attained by the sports science students (M=7.72, SD±1.38) compared to the others (M=7.23, SD±1.31). Conclusions. This research follows the previously published articles about understanding the social consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports science students were less sensitive to changes, and their mental strength demonstrates their successful coping mechanisms for these new circumstances over a more extended period.

RekordThe need to standardize vitamin D dosage in dietary supplements(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-08-21) Kobiałka, Jakub ; Giordano, UgoWe read with great interest the article by Domański et al. describing the results of an analysis concerning vitamin D content in dietary supplements available in EU countries. In our opinion, the article raises a very important issue, which is the lack of regulated standardization of dietary supplements in terms of the contained doses of vitamin D. Recent data collected during a large observational study report that about 40% of Europeans are vitamin D deficient, and 13% are severely deficient [2]. A significantly reduced vitamin D level can cause serious metabolic disorders, leading to deregulation of calcium-phosphate metabolism, increased risk of infections, endocrine disorders, or increased risk of depression. With increasing public awareness of the potential consequences of vitamin D deficiency, the use of vitamin D-containing supplements has been steadily increasing in recent years.

RekordLoneliness in the practice of Emergency Medical Teams: a case study(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-08-21) Dudziński, Łukasz ; Czyżewski, Łukasz ; Kubiak, TomaszLoneliness is a common phenomenon among human populations worldwide. Elderly people are particularly affected by loneliness due to difficulties in using communicators (telephone, social media) providing remote contact. National Emergency Medical Service (EMS) entities are the units responsible for undertaking medical rescue operations on the scene of an incident and qualified patient transport. The ambulance equipment, including measuring and monitoring devices, dressing articles, pharmaceuticals and procedures used by medical rescue teams are dedicated mainly to urgent cases. Material and methods. The study comprised a 3-year retrospective analysis of trips performed by the EMS between Jan. 1, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2022, to a female patient living alone. The following measures were calculated to characterize the variables: number (n) and frequency (%), in addition Min, Max, Mean and Standard Deviation (SD). Results. In the period under observation, 49 EMS interventions were performed. There were 1085 days (2 years; 11 months; 21 days) between the first and last intervention under observation. The highest intensity of calls occurred in March 2020 (n=9), and May 2020 (n=10); the largest intervals between the calls occurred in the second half of 2022. The share of events in particular years was as follows: 2020 (n=33), 2021 (n=10), 2022 (n=6). Conclusions. Loneliness and lack of care from the family affects the condition of chronic diseases. The frequency of EMS calls in the described case was higher at night. An increase in the frequency of interventions corresponded with the period of the beginning of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic in Poland as a new unknown threat. Predominantly pharmacology in the form of sedatives, analgesics and drugs lowering hypertension, was used which was a response to the needs of the patient’s clinical condition.
