RekordRelationship between health literacy and care burden in mothers of children with chronic conditions(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-09-15) Yalnızoğlu Çaka, Sinem ; Topal, Sümeyra ; Ar, Işıl ; Öztürkler, SinemBackground. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between health literacy and caregiving burden in mothers responsible for primary care of chronically ill children. Material and methods. The study, given a descriptive and analytical design, was conducted between January- May 2023 in Kocaeli province (Türkiye) with mothers (n=131) who had a child diagnosed with a chronic disease for at least one year. Data were collected using the questionnaire, Turkish Health Literacy Scale-32 (THLS-32) and Zarit Burden Scale (ZBS). Results. The mean age of mothers participating in the study was 36.96±6.56 years. It was found that there was a significant association between the different descriptive characteristics of the mothers participating in the study and the scales. It was found that the mothers had a sufficient level of health literacy (31.3%), with a mean score of 36.00±8.46 on the THLS-32. There is a significant negative correlation (r=-0.201; p=0.022) between the mean scores of THLS-32 and ZBS of the mothers participating in the study. Conclusions. As a result of this study, it was found that some demographic characteristics of mothers caring for a child with a chronic illness have an impact on caregiving burden and health literacy. As the mother’s health literacy increases, the burden of caregiving decreases. Family caregivers should be involved in designed educational and intervention programs to increase their health literacy and self-efficacy.

RekordResults of the education of patients with heart failure in the field of pro-health behaviors(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-09-28) Dąbek, Józef ; Bonek-Wytrych, Grażyna ; Szynal, Magdalena ; Sierka, OskarBackground. Cardiovascular diseases rank first on the list of causes of death, both in Poland and in the world. The aim of the study was to check whether the education in the field of pro-health behaviors, with particular emphasis on physical activity, conducted among patients with heart failure has a positive effect on changing their lifestyle. Material and methods. The study involved 78 (100%) patients hospitalized due to heart failure decompensation (NYHA III-IV), who underwent education in the field of pro-health behaviors. It used original questionnaires to conduct the study, consisting of questions of comparable content regarding the discussed topic and the general characteristics of the respondents. Results. Almost 60% of the surveyed patients claimed that their pro-health behaviors had improved. Smoking was declared by about 1/3 of the respondents (25; 32.05%) at the stage of decompensation, and only about 9% (7; 8.97%) in the long-term follow-up (Chi2=12.738; p=0.0004). Sadly, after education almost 3/4 of patients (58; 74.36%) did not perform physical exercises. Conclusions. Even though, education of patients with heart failure was associated with increased implementation of pro-health behaviors, there is still a need for systematic education of patients in terms of the benefits of changing their lifestyle to a healthy lifestyle.

RekordPhysical activity as a form of support for emotional intelligence in the treatment of depressive disorders: a review of current studies(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-10-23) Marszałek, Anna ; Walaszek, Robert ; Kasperczyk, TadeuszDepression is one of the most frequent mental diseases, and has a detrimental impact on numerous areas of human life. The development of depression may be fostered by various factors: genetic, biochemical, biological, mental and social. A significant role when treating depressive disorders is played by pharmacological, psychotherapeutic or cognitive and behavioral impacts. There is also evidence proving high effectiveness of properly dosed physical activity, both in the prevention and in the treatment of depressive disorders. The article is aimed at presenting the influence of regular physical activity on the improvement in emotional intelligence, in the treatment of depressive disorders. The paper is a narrative review and has been written based on the documentation analysis method, using the quantitative and the qualitative technique. The tool used was the Polish and the international scientific literature from databases, i.e. Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar and Europe PMC. The research material was constituted by groups of women and men, aged 9 to 80, varying in the numbers of group members. The research tools used were various psychological questionnaires, as well as m agnetic r esonance images. T he s tudy covered v arious forms of physical activity a nd t he period of t heir use, while MRI was applied to assess morphological changes occurring in the brain as a result of undertaken physical activity. It was proven that regular physical training, regardless of its form, causes a reduction in stress and depression symptoms in all the respondents, notwithstanding their age and gender.

RekordAttitudes of Generation Z toward digital gaming and healthy nutrition according to regular physical activity status(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-10-23) Tekkurşun Demir, Gönül ; Batu, Batuhan ; Akkaya, SümeyraBackground. The study aimed to identify the relationship between attitudes toward digital gaming and healthy nutrition according to participation in physical activity. Material and methods. The sample consisted of 332 (171 female, 161 male) students aged 10 to 14. The Digital Gaming Attitude Scale (DGAS) and Attitude Scale for Healthy Nutrition (ASHN) were used to collect data. After verifying the normal distribution of the data, Pearson correlation analysis and t-test were performed. Results. The results showed a moderate inverse correlation between DGAS and ASHN scores. Moreover, a moderate inverse correlation was found between the DGAS and ASHN scores of both physically active and sedentary participants. Male participants, regardless of their physical exercise status, had significantly higher DGAS scores than female participants. No significant difference was found in the ASHN scores of those who participated in physical activity and those who did not participate in physical activity according to their gender. Conclusions. The findings suggested that the increase in the attitude toward digital gaming caused a reduction in the attitude toward healthy nutrition, and participation in regular physical activity diminished the attitude toward playing digital games. Furthermore, the results indicated that male participants had higher digital gaming attitudes than female participants, irrespective of their physical activity status.

RekordReactivity of the oxygen transport system of elite athletes with different individual and typological properties in their nervous systems(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-11-07) Lyzohub, Volodymyr ; Pustovalov, Vitalii ; Kozhemiako, Tetiana ; Khomenko, Sergii ; Bezkopylny, OleksandrBackground. The mechanisms of neurovegetative interaction of the functional reactivity of the oxygen transport system (OTS) and genetically determined typological properties of the central nervous system (CNS) were studied. Material and methods. The typological properties of the central nervous system of elite football players (32 individuals) were determined on the “Diagnost-1” neurodynamic complex. The reactivity of the OTS was investigated in a stepincreasing running speed test using the Jaeger Oxycon Mobile gas analyzer. Results. The dependence of the reactive properties of the OTS on the genetically determined functional mobility of nervous processes (FMNP) was established. Statistically significant higher indicators of blood stroke volume, carbon dioxide release rate (VСO2) and blood lactate (НLa) were found in the athletes with a higher level of FMNP than in individuals with a low degree of typological property (р=0.033-0.045). The athletes with low FRNP were characterized by statistically significant high values of heart rate (HR) and rate of oxygen uptake (VO2 max). The indicators of minute volumes of blood and respiration did not show statistically significant differences in groups of sportsmen with different gradations of FMNP (р=0.064-0.078). Conclusions. The theoretical model and mechanisms of interaction of the individual-typological property of FMNP with the functional reactivity of OTS and the possibility of using the results to evaluate the playing activity of football players were discussed.

RekordEffect of non-pharmacological treatment on pain in women with breast cancer(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-11-14) Obročníková, Andrea ; Majerníková, Ľudmila ; Hudáková, AnnaPain is the most dreaded symptom of breast cancer that significantly affects the patient’s quality of life. The aim of this article was to present non-pharmacological interventions used to effectively manage pain in breast cancer patients. This is a review article; studies were researched in the PubMed database. Using the keywords: non-pharmacological AND intervention AND pain AND breast cancer OR breast neoplasms, 6 relevant studies were selected that met the specified criteria on non-pharmacological interventions for pain relief in women with breast cancer. Yoga, acupuncture and electroacupuncture in women with breast cancer appear to be promising non-pharmacological interventions in pain reduction. Other studies on cognitivebehavioral therapy and massage therapies have similarly demonstrated significant reductions in pain in women with breast cancer, whether induced by systemic therapy, hormone therapy, or surgery. Non-pharmacological interventions have been shown to be an appropriate adjunctive alternative in the management of pain in cancer patients, but can be applied alongside standard pharmacological treatment under professional supervision to improve the patient’s quality of life.

RekordHeavy metals in human milk literature review(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-11-27) Młodawska, Marta ; Młodawski, Jakub ; Świercz, Anna ; Świercz, GrzegorzThe escalating global environmental pollution leads to the increased exposure to heavy metals, including chromium, mercury, copper, and lead. These substances ubiquitous in our environment and food, can induce severe health issues, including intellectual disabilities, kidney damage, and certain types of cancer. The article presents a current literature review concerning breast milk and its potential contamination with heavy metals. Research reveals varied levels of heavy metal contamination in human milk, contingent on geographical location and lifestyle factors. Some studies have detected a higher concentration of heavy metals in urban areas compared to suburban ones, while others have reported an increased level in the milk of women who smoke cigarettes. Moreover, the concentration of heavy metals in human milk often exceeded permissible limits set by the World Health Organization. Given the increasing exposure to heavy metals, it is imperative to monitor their concentration in food and conduct further studies to understand the risk factors for exposure.

RekordPhysicians-in-training attitudes towards the community pharmacist-physician collaboration and pharmaceutical care: a 2022 cross-sectional survey in Poland(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2023-12-11) Wrześniewska-Wal, Iwona ; Pinkas, Jarosław ; Jankowski, MateuszBackground. The World Health Organization (WHO) encourages collaboration among healthcare professionals. Due to the aging of the population and the burden of chronic diseases, there is a need to implement effective pharmaceutical care in Poland. This study aimed to characterize attitudes towards community pharmacist-physician collaboration and pharmaceutical care among physicians-in-training in Poland. Material and methods. This cross-sectional survey was conducted among 509 doctors undergoing specialization training in the fourth quarter of 2022. The study questionnaire included 18 questions on community pharmacist-physician collaborative working and pharmaceutical care. Results. I n t he g roup o f r espondents, 9 4.1% a greed t hat t here i s a n eed f or t he p hysician-pharmacist c ollaboration i n pharmaceutical care. Among the respondents, 77.2% declared a lack of knowledge of the pharmacists’ responsibilities under Polish law, and 79.6% declared that the current education programs do not prepare physicians for cooperation with pharmacists and pharmaceutical care. Most of the physicians declared that pharmacists should provide patient education on the use of medical equipment (92.5%), detection of drug-dietary supplements interactions (85.9%), and detection of polypharmacy (85.7%). Lack of IT systems supporting collaborative working and pharmaceutical care (69.5%) was the most common barrier to collaboration with physicians. Conclusions. The study showed that current cooperation between physicians and community pharmacists is limited to formal issues. Building cooperation between physicians and pharmacists must start at the education stage. The implementation of pharmaceutical care should start with the cooperation of primary care physicians and community pharmacists from community pharmacies.

RekordComparison of the impact of meat and vegetarian diets on the occurrence of colorectal cancer(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2024-01-29) Marcinkiewicz, Anita ; Ochotnicka, AleksandraWe have recently read an interesting article by Yad Di et al. describing the impact of a meat-based diet on gastrointestinal cancers. We were particularly intrigued by its implications for colorectal cancer. Meat-based diets continue to be one of the most commonly adopted eating patterns. In our opinion, this article addresses an important issue, and the analysis of the relationship between colorectal cancer and meat consumption may promote a shift towards a vegetarian diet. As known, colorectal cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers, and a modifiable factor influencing its occurrence is diet.

RekordPhysical activity: prevention and support in the fight against depression(Akademia Bialska im. Jana Pawła II, 2024-01-29) Ochotnicka, Aleksandra ; Marcinkiewicz, AnitaAfter reviewing the study conducted by Marszałek et al., which focuses on physical activity as a supportive form for emotional intelligence in the treatment of depressive disorders, we believe that this work addresses a topic of significant importance to both physicians and patients – the utility of physical activity in preventing and treating depression. Depression is a leading mental illness, causing disability worldwide. From 1990 to 2017, the global incidence of depression increased by almost 50%. Limited social awareness causes delayed reporting of patients to specialists and delayed treatment. Depression often leads to suicidal acts among the affected individuals, with suicides being one of the main causes of death among young people. The primary methods of treating this condition include antidepressant medication and psychotherapy alone or in combination. Due to the constant rise in incidences, it is necessary to explore new treatment possibilities and prevent the development of depression.
